Devin was born on 12/12/10 at 11:11am in Dayton, Ohio on a cold winter day. We wished for him for so long and now he is finally here. We wanted his story here in order to keep in touch with all of his family around the country.
We did a quick trip to the zoo to ride the choo choo train and look at the tigers. We also visited the petting zoo where a very tolerant goat let Devin torture her for about two minutes until we removed him (he was insistent on feeding her some hay, which she did not want).
Devin got to see some African drummers and dancers at school - here is the video. It made us think of Auntie Kathleen who is in Africa for three weeks. You can see Devin in the video sitting on the right side (look for his very blond hair and wearing a grey T-shirt with red pattern on the front.
Devin will occasionally go with me on an evening run (usually I bribe him with a couple gummy bears). This evening, he acquiesced. He ate his two gummy bears and then tried to grab at the bushes on either side of the sidewalk as we ran along. I would shout "right side" or "left side" and he would crack up as he put his arm out as we ran by the plants. Some people sitting on their front porch found this very entertaining.
He loves the bunny. He holds the bunny, kisses the bunny, and feeds the bunny. He was also up for 1.5 hours last night because we could not find the bunny (it was in Papa's car, and Papa was at work). I tried to switch and give a different bunny to him to go to bed with, but he knew, even in the dark. I think we might need to get a secret back-up bunny.
Devin is more observant than I realized. He has correctly pointed out the exact make, model, and color of Grandpa's car at least 4 separate times over the past 3 weeks completely out of the blue and unprompted by me. Impressive.
We went to the park while Papa went to see the Cal Berkeley vs. Ohio State game. Devin had fun making smoke (aka dust) and chasing some enormous bubbles that glowed purple and iridescent in the waning sun. A little girl with pigtails befriended us and as we were leaving I said "Bye, Cutie!" And Devin repeated "Bye, Cutie!" and waved wildly. Her mother said he was quite charming.
It's almost Papa's birthday do we went to visit Nana for an early birthday lunch. Devin wanted to blow out the candle! Nana took him to the park and they had a piano duet.
