Devin was born on 12/12/10 at 11:11am in Dayton, Ohio on a cold winter day. We wished for him for so long and now he is finally here. We wanted his story here in order to keep in touch with all of his family around the country.

Grandma & Grandpa
Grandma and Grandpa came to help take care of Devin after his surgery. He had a wonderful time with them going to parks, trains, a petting zoo, playing ipad games, riding a carousel, and going to the Exploratorium. He was very upset to see them go.

Surgery
Devin had his second surgery to place ear tubes as well as have his adenoid glands removed. We checked into the hospital at 6:15am and he was a wild animal racing about the pre-op area in his hospital gown (which he absolutely pitched a fit about wearing). Two hours later he got some medicine that made him loopy and floppy. Then he was taken into surgery. About an hour later he was finished. We spent two hours in recovery and went home at about 11:30. He never cried upon waking up although there were several other children crying in the recovery room. What a trooper. He was a bit funny all that day saying dilly things and acting weird. He woke up the next day happy as a lark like nothing ever happened, feeling great! Talking up a storm. With even more energy than before, like he'd had an espresso all day long.

Day at the Zoo
Auntie Loralie and I took Devin to the zoo. There was a magical moment when Devin asked to go back to the tiger exhibit (where there were no tigers to be seen) and suddenly the waterfall turned on and four tigers walked out! Magnificent!!! Unfortunately no good tiger photos. Devin did enjoy the steam train ride, too.

One Vote for President
Auntie Angela and I took Devin to the Accordion Festival. There was a playground, craft fair, food trucks, and huge grassy area that people spread out blankets to listen to a huge variety of accordion music - from French and Italian gypsy-style, to a duet with violin, to a modern punk-rock cover band. Who knew Dead Kennedys could sound so interesting. After entertaining everyone in the surrounding area by getting up and running through the crowds at every available opportunity, Devin finally fell asleep for a little nap. Later on, he made friends with a nice Brazilian grandfather on the next blanket and later a sweet older Dutch woman. She was convinced that Devin was Dutch because she said he "runs like Dutch babies do!" Another woman told me that if Devin ran for President, he had her vote - that he was obviously very smart and persuasive. Yep.
